The standard Intel HGX node

The SYS-821GE-TNHR is Supermicro's mainstream 8U eight-GPU system on Intel. It carries an NVIDIA HGX H100 or H200 8-GPU baseboard with full NVLink and NVSwitch, dual 5th or 4th Gen Xeon Scalable processors, 32 DDR5 DIMM slots, and room for 8 NICs so every GPU can have its own 400G port for GPUDirect RDMA. It is the node most European integrators hold on allocation.

Good for

  • Single-node training and fine-tuning up to the 70B class.
  • Production inference clusters where nodes are added one at a time.
  • Sites that already run Intel and want to keep one management stack.

What to specify in a quote

  • H100 or H200 baseboard. H200 lead times are usually shorter now.
  • CPU SKU and memory: 1TB is the usual floor for an eight-GPU node, 2TB if you do heavy CPU preprocessing.
  • Networking: 8× 400G ConnectX-7 for clusters, 2× 200G for standalone nodes.
  • Storage: NVMe count and whether you need a BlueField DPU.
