The AMD alternative

The AS-8125GS-TNHR is the same HGX 8-GPU platform as the Intel node with dual AMD EPYC 9004 processors. You get more CPU cores and PCIe 5.0 lanes per socket, which matters when the data pipeline is CPU-bound, and the AMD version has often carried a shorter lead time when Intel-based nodes were constrained.

Choose this over the Intel node when

  • Your preprocessing or tokenisation runs on the host CPUs.
  • You want the most PCIe lanes for NICs and NVMe.
  • Lead time is the deciding factor: ask for both in the quote and compare.

What to specify

  • EPYC 9004 SKU: 32-core parts are enough for pure GPU workloads, 64-core and up for mixed.
  • H100 or H200 baseboard.
  • NIC and storage layout as for the SYS-821GE-TNHR.
